Alto de Velefique, also known as Almeria d'Huez due to its resemblance to Alpe d'Huez, is our mountain summit route.
Velefique regularly has featured numerous times on La Vuelta as a summit finish, the latest being stage 11 in 2017 but is yet to be discovered by the masses.
A favourite of Velo Hols due to the switchbacks, road surface and elevation. It can get cold at the top so pack accordingly and always check the weather on our homepage to plan your ride.
Take a look at the climb's profile. It's a very tough climb with a sapping start of 9-10% across the first 400m of elevation before dropping off to 7%. A slight rest at 5% to catch your breath before back up to 7%
The route is TBC depending on group preference. Either take on 'the monster' a 202km ride with 3,199 metres of elevation or take the chargeable drop-off service at the cafe in Tabernas to bring the route down to 142km.
One of the truly great climbs - and a great instagram spot!
