The Sierra de los Filabres, just to the north, has found favour among cycling cognoscenti thanks to the Vuelta a España’s eye-catching trips to the back-to-back Calar Alto and Puerto de Velefique climbs.

The Velefique, in particular, is an extraordinary noodle of a pass – imagine the most famous French mountain road, Alpe d’Huez, transplanted to the Grand Canyon.

Seven of the best winter training camp destinations

The area is predominately hilly and has limited flat rides but they are available. It offers ideal training for the Etape du Tour and other mountainous European events as the area has several climbs over 2,000m. There’s outstanding scenery, good road surfaces and virtually no traffic

The Times Newspaper - 50 secret beaches in europe

The Times newspaper rates local beaches Cala Rajá and Agua Amarga as 13th and 16th respectively.

Cabo de Gata-Nijar is a protected nature park with a wild and isolated landscape thanks to its desert climate, which makes it the driest location in Europe.

Our routes take in both beaches and the Cabo de Gata-Nijar park

MOJACAR BECOMES THE OFFICIAL HEADQUARTERS FOR THE BELGIAN CYCLING FEDERATION

Agency Manager and Professional Cyclist, Jan Almeye, said Mojácar ranked as one of the top destinations for cycling, along with Mallorca and Calpe.

Rabobank Trainer, Piet Kuijs agreed, saying the area had fantastic range of challenging routes.

TEAM BELGIUM ARRIVE

A Team of Professional cyclists scouted Mojacar as a key location for the first edition of the Gran Fondo Costa de Almeria tour. Representatives from different international cycling groups held a meeting with Mayor, Rosa Maria Cano to discuss logistics for the 2018 race.

Underpinning the Belgian's delegation's meeting with the Mojacar Mayor is the promotion of Almeria as a top destination for cyclists from northern Europe.
